This has been subject to contradictory information at first. When the rumour first started, her husband stated that it was untrue. Her subsequent statement to the press is revealing. Notice how she was careful not to mention Scientology by name. She doesn't want to draw the wrath of their active legal team, nor does she want to poison herself with active Scientologists by associating with Rinder. They are losing members like crazy. I didn't even know that Lisa Marie Presley had left last year until I read the article about Remini. They have million dollar facilities scattered around the world that are practically empty and unused. This is exciting to watch!

Leah Remini has apparently had enough of Scientology ... so familiar ...
by Bella15 inthe former king of queens star has left the church of scientology, the hollywood reporter confirms.. on thursday, the new york post initially reported that remini had decided to quit the controversial religion, citing a source's claim that the 43-year-old actress had been subjected to years of "interrogations" and "thought modification.".
the new york post's source added that remini decided to cease being a parishioner, in part, because of policies preventing members to question the leadership of david miscavige.. when asked for a comment, a rep for the church of scientology told e!
news: "the church respects the privacy of parishioners and has no comment about any individual church member.".

To avenge something that happened a generation or two ago is hardly an excuse to issue threats for full blown racially tinged riots. Martin Luther King Jr, Gandhi, and Nelson Mandela never condoned violence and they actually lived in those turbulent periods.

This is why so many people find this process a farce. It is tribalism at its worst. The threat of race riots and unrest was issued before Zimmerman was arrested and charged. Everything since then has been a negotiation.
"Will you not riot if we at least arrest and charge him?"
"No, but there had better be a guilty verdict for second degree murder!"
"Uhm, sorry, that is isn't looking plausible considering the evidence that is coming out. Will you take manslaughter?"
"Manslaughter? Are you kidding? It better be at least that, and we wont be too happy about it either!"
When the criminal justice system is so susceptible to blanket threats from one group or another, then multi-ethnic democracy is on the inevitable path to sectionalism and Balkanisation.

Not Guilty. This is a tainted case and which no enlightened society should condone prosecuting. The government charged with trying Zimmerman before a jury is then found to have put tax dollars into organising protests and riling public emotions against the same person? Jesus got a fairer trial from the Romans.

One less celebrity Scientologist
by Gopher init makes me very happy when a popular celebrity leaves a cult, because it could give others the courage to do it or start to think about leaving.. leah remini played carrie on "the king of queens", and has also been on "saved by the bell", "the talk" and had small parts in other shows.. http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/leah-remini-leaves-church-of-scientology-calls-it-corrupt-report-2013117.

Becoming an 'Independent Scientologist' like the main defectors are doing is less harmful than the Miscavigeite cult they were feeding into. Let them play with their e-Meters all they want to. Miscavige is a vile sadistic man whose twisted little fiefdom is getting run into the dirt by his own arrogance.

I would have liked to have seen the panic spreading in the Accounts Dept. once they realised they were playing by new rules and that they weren't working. But alas, they eventually did figure out new ways to earn money sans literature sales. They are experts at putting guilt trips on people after all.

JWs and E-Cigs
by TheClarinetist inthe other night, two of my jw coworkers were sitting out enjoying an e-cig with one of my other coworkers.
i knew from earlier that there was tobacco (well, nicotine) in it.
out of curiousity, i did some minor digging with my worldlytm coworkers and am pretty darn sure that these guys aren't doing anything else questionable... are active jws allowed to smoke e-cigs now, or did i just witness some extremely minor teenage rebellion?.

Smoking e-Cigs just for fun doesn't really make any sense. Who looks 'cool' smoking an e-Cig? It's like someone chewing nicotine gum because they like the flavour.

Does Jehovah give credit for time served? If so, I went to more religious meetings in my lifetime than most modern-day Christians. Count that time up, boss.

Just as there will be no female pope, there will be no such addition to the GB. The reasons are not only idealogical. You can't just jump to the GB from nowhere. Women are in absolutely no positions of authority in the JWs, anointed ones included. The closest thing you can get to power would be a wife of a GB member or Bethel top administrator, and this would only be by extension. The GB wives had power only because of who they were married to, and people had to have had a sense of fear about displeasing them. Even if they were to decide one sunny day to appoint a woman, who would it be, and why choose them in particular? They've got men at Bethel and the branches who'd be first on the list.

Who has had their District Convention seats stolen by other Witnesses?
by ÁrbolesdeArabia inover the years i have had to deal with this problem personally and as a attendant covering my section at various convention centers.
i had people who were suppose to be decent jehovah witnesses pick up all the books, bags and coolers belonging to brothers and sisters who arrived at the appropriate time and picked them up and dumped them all at the end of the seating row.
so here is what goes down, the sister runs up to me panicking and saying "dear brother, i had all those seats reserved for my family and now look!

At the first interrnational convention I attended, I was shocked at how the seat saving stampede was unravelling. The family I was staying with also happened to be waiting for the doors to open. The duct tape people were the worst. They didn't even make any pretense of saving seats for immediate family. You heard the 'RIPPP!' of the tape and two rows were sealed off instantly. I had already placed my items on an aisle seat at the time someone was heading for me with tape. He just taped it over with the 'Sister, these seats are taken', even though I was there first. My friends pulled me back and I ended up sitting next to them and noticed that not all seats were occupied. Several were just spaces to store their lunch and book bags, and for their outer clothing.
